The “hit and run” era is over.
Many European states are parties to the Rome Statute, and their officials therefore fall within the jurisdiction of the ICC for international crimes, including where responsibility arises through complicity.
In addition, numerous European legal systems provide for "universal jurisdiction" over grave international crimes, empowering domestic courts to investigate and prosecute those responsible regardless of where the crimes were committed.
Accordingly, European officials who have provided support to the U.S. and Israel, contributing to the commission of international crimes, are subject to legal accountability both before the International Criminal Court and in national courts exercising universal jurisdiction.
